I went to the forest yesterday. It is my favourite place….you know ..where the trees twist and bend down over the tumbling river, where the trees are carpeted in green coats and speckled with multi-coloured patches of lichen and curious ears of fungus listen to you as you try not to disturb the beauty. Rain drips around you and you could swear that the forest is moving beneath your feet.

Oh! And it did! I glimpsed something, it appeared to run away in the shadows, difficult to see what it was. I tried to still myself and peer into  the dark woods. 

Suddenly the arm of an oak tree tapped my shoulders, twiggy fingers held me there and I looked around as the old Green Man loomed into view. "Stop", he called in a raspy voice. "SSh". His twiggy fingers beckoned me and I felt compelled to look up and listen. "Look down at my roots, there is a little hollow. What do you see there?"

I bent down and pushed aside some brambles and there was this cake. "What you thought you saw was a Piskie running away into the woods. Piskies are kind but shy creatures and he has baked you this cake. It has a secret ingredient; essence of rainforest. He is worried that people don’t understand the living rainforests and how we must help them to thrive. Whoever eats this cake with its essence of rainforest, will become part of the rainforest world and will grow to understand and wonder at it. 

The Piskies told me that he thought people were rushing through the forest and eating it away, pulling up fragile moss and rare lichens. They were very distressed about this so I hatched a plan. That is, (ahhemm he coughed a little embarrassed by his achievement,) the cake. So here you have it. Be prepared to be transformed!".
